Now that you’ve learned the proper order for applying your daytime products, the staff at our Santa Monica medical skin spa is sharing guidelines for your nighttime routine. Nighttime is when our skin repairs and regenerates, making it an ideal time to treat skin conditions and fight the signs of aging. Below is the protocol and order for applying your nighttime products.
Remove every trace of makeup. Use a gentle, oil-based eye makeup remover and face wipes to get rid of all makeup.
Wash your face thoroughly with your favorite cleanser and a washcloth or electronic cleansing brush. Ask the staff at our Santa Monica medical skin spa for recommendations for your skin type.
Korean skin care has brought the toning step back into the spotlight. Toners provide a good way to ensure any last traces of makeup are removed, as well as dirt and grime.
Now is the time to apply any treatment products to your skin, such as retinoids, acne medications, brightening products or creams that address fine lines and wrinkles. If you use a retinol product, make sure your skin is completely dry before you apply it. Any traces of water will nullify its effectiveness.
Lock in hydration with a rich moisturizing night cream and eye cream. If you use a retinoid product, you may want to let it sink in for a little bit before applying a hydrating product over it. This step will also seal in any of the reparative treatments from step 4. At this stage, you can be finished or opt for some additional treatments with step 6.
Once or twice a week you may want to indulge in an overnight sleep mask for extra hydration and added benefits. Another option is to apply a facial oil to seal in your other products and enjoy some next level hydration. Either of these options can be especially helpful for dry skin.
